Under the direction of the Payroll Supervisor, the Payroll Analyst performs a variety of duties in a fast-paced work environment to support the preparation, processing and distribution of the City's bi-monthly payroll for approximately 800 employees.
The following are some of the position responsibilities.
Audits timesheets to ensure adherence to established pay policies and standards according to applicable contract languages, city ordinance, personnel manual, and State or Federal regulations.
Computes salary, overtime, employee deductions, termination, and other special payments, for example promotion, out of class, merit increase or allowances; includes verifying and reviewing source documents and coordinating with departments to ensure accuracy and adherence to procedure and policies.
Maintains and updates employee records to ensure up-to-date benefit eligibility, salary, work shifts and W-4 information are in the system for processing.
Prepares, reconciles, and remits files for direct deposits, maintains employee leave banks, deductions, benefits, wage garnishments, and payroll taxes.
Reviews payroll register for errors, audits, adjusts, and documents changes to pay transactions
Assists in processing and distributing paychecks.
Responds to inquiries regarding check payment, employee deductions, employment taxes, retirement benefits, including interpretation of labor agreement, tax, State and Federal regulations.
