Financial Accounting has an outstanding opportunity for a Merchant Services Specialist As part of the Banking and Accounting Operations (BAO) department within UW Financial Accounting, this position will serve as the point of contact for university departments and merchant services providers for UW merchant service activity. In addition, the Merchant Services Specialist will generate institutional level reports to monitor activity, identifying opportunities for improvement and mitigating risk.
The Merchant Services Specialist will require a comprehensive understanding of all merchant services activity and point-of-sale solutions at UW. The position will be located within a central administrative area and will be responsible for institutional day-to-day management of the merchant services program, including technical and operational support. The UW merchant services program is large, with approximately 150 campus departments processing credit cards with over 300 merchant accounts (MIDs). Adding to the complexity are the various intake points with varying terminal types, gateway and POS terminals/software, and web applications. Excellent communication skills are essential, as this position will be required to explain and support the merchant service activity to a university population whose background does not include this type of work experience. Merchant Services Support:
Monitor merchant services activity by generating complex reports that include analytics to identify trends and, opportunities for improvement as well as mitigate fraud
Open and close merchant accounts o Determine appropriateness of opening new merchant accounts (MIDs) o Manage necessary paper work to maintain all MIDs, gateways, terminals and associated POS; determine the level of authorization needed and obtain the appropriate signatures
Manage the day-to-day activity for merchant services, including but not limited to: o Troubleshoot transaction questions/concerns o Provide support for chargebacks o Train departments to use online tools for merchant services o Open new MIDs o Deploy new equipment and software; provide training as needed o Provide maintenance on existing terminals and software as needed o Serve as point of contact for merchant services provider o Troubleshoot credit card terminal, gateway software and other merchant services related issues
Serve as the administrator on of UW merchant services platforms, gateways, and point-of-sale solutions
Assist BAO leadership in Payment Card Industry compliance program Banking Services
Provide customer service to the UW banking services program o Provide Q&A regarding banking services via email, phone or in-person o Serve as a backup point of contact for ourour banking partners o Troubleshoot banking issues and transaction activity Payments
Serve as a subject matter expert for payment methods at UW; partner with BAO leadership and campus departments to ensure the best payment methods are being used from a cost and functionality perspective
Understand how the payment methods present and settle to UW bank accounts
Understand the accounting behind all payment methods that present to UW bank accounts General
Participate in change management projects for BAO processes; work with BAO leadership in making the transition from paper-driven production work to online processing and analysis with campus partners
Troubleshoot online issues with BAO website with campus departments; escalate to IT when needed
Post metrics for Lean report out and assigned BAO visual systems Requirements:
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or a related field
Minimum 3 years of proven experience in the finance ,accounting or banking fields with an emphasis in operations
Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate in a direct, positive manner that engages dialog and resolves differences
Advanced user skills in Excel
Established experience using online tools for daily work and data extraction
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Ability to work independently; problem solve, take initiative, set priorities, and work multiple priorities efficiently and effectively
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to adapt to changing environments and learn new processes
Ability to be flexible and organized
Ability to maintain positive and professional demeanor

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
Knowledge of Merchant Connect, Cybersource, Payflow, and MyClientLine.net
Knowledge of UW financial systems
Relevant experience working at the institutional level of a large, complex organization
